Infogene strives to master all the necessary skills to go through the innovation cycle in the development of products in the field of medical devices, with application in the early detection of cancer. In addition to a solid experience in R&D, the team has indepht knowledge in the area of Industrial Property (IP), and has developed skills to conduct patent database searches, draft patents and corresponding claims, and file applications.

In this context, in 2012 Infogene filed a patent in the US and Europe protecting a family of portable medical devices for the collection, storage, transport and recovery of biological material without significant manipulation or risk of cross-contamination.

The patent was granted in 2017 for the territory of the USA and Europe.

Infogene also has relevant expertise in technical design and prototyping with 3D production capacity. In addition, Infogene is proficient in regulatory affairs in the field of medical devices and can prepare technical documents for conformity assessment and CE marking. Infogene's team also has the training and capability to implement quality certification systems (ISO9001 and ISO13485) as a basis for medical device manufacturing and services provision.

Oncosopro

Lung cancer is the tumor with the highest mortality rate and accounts for one third of all cancer deaths. It is a pathology with a silent course, without characteristic symptoms that allow its early detection, which means that 75% of cases are diagnosed late, in an inoperable cancer stage. Because of the late diagnosis of the disease, there is an urgent need for early detection methods that allow the disease to be detected at a treatable stage of its natural course, thereby extending life expectancy. and reducing mortality. In this way, Infogene has developed Oncosopro, a method for detecting biomarkers in exhaled breath air that can be sampled using a portable self-collection device. These biomarkers can be subjected to laboratory determinations with specificity for lung cancer or to genetic alteration analyzes for predict responses to certain therapies.

Uromonitor

Bladder cancer is the cancer with the highest recurrence rate. Approximately 70% of patients experience local recurrence after treatment. For this reason, patients undergo intensive and extremely unpleasant postoperative monitoring through an endoscopic examination to visualize the lower urinary tract, urethra and bladder, called cystoscopy. In this way, the research group of the Instituto De Patologia E Imunologia Molecular da Universidade do Porto (IPATIMUP) has developed the Uromonitor, a test sensitive enough to detect the most common genetic alterations in bladder cancer. Infogene was the selected partner to manufacture the test kit. This test is intended to improve the quality of life of patients with bladder cancer during follow-up by providing a non-invasive (urine-based) test that will be used as an adjunct to monitor and detect bladder cancer recurrence. Other relevant benefits include a reduction in complications and comorbidities associated with the currently used surveillance method.
